Good morning, Bengaluru ☀️

Bengaluru has a cave temple where sunlight passes between a stone bull’s horns and illuminates the deity during Sankranti. Gavi Gangadhareshwara’s alignment makes finding the sunny corner for your houseplant look easy. What else have we been walking past?
☕ Bengaluru Trivia
What do the letters HRBR in HRBR Layout stand for?
Answer at the end.
Neighbourhood of the Week: HRBR Layout
Around HRBR, residential lanes sit close to Kalyan Nagar’s busy café belt. This week, residents are asking where one should end and the other begin.
An October 1 report describes opposition to a proposed homestay-cum-café on 5th A Main Road, citing parking, noise and exhaust concerns. Residents have asked Bengaluru North City Corporation to verify permissions. The owner says a library is also planned.
Parking pressure on nearby streets is already familiar to locals. This debate puts an everyday question in focus: how do we welcome somewhere new to hang out without making life harder for the neighbours upstairs?

An evening walk, together
On October 2, more than 300 women gathered at Mahatma Gandhi Park in Shivajinagar around 8 pm, then walked through Kasturba Road to Freedom Park.
Organised by Nupur Azadi as part of the wider Why Loiter Campaign, the Bengaluru march joined similar actions across Indian cities. Participants carried flashlights and torches, highlighting poorly lit streets and women’s right to occupy public spaces.
The October 4 report includes a software engineer who attended with her seven-year-old daughter. Walking together made participants’ concerns visible and brought their demand for safer streets into the spaces themselves.
The march doesn’t mean those streets are now safer. It show how many people want that to change.
An evening walk should be an ordinary pleasure everyone gets to enjoy.
City Pulse, Swalpa Serious
🚦 Commute Watch: Race Course Road diversions began October 5. Movement towards Maurya Junction from Shivananda and Trilight junctions is restricted for works, with arrangements announced for 60 days. Heading towards Majestic or KR Market? Check the direction-specific advisory before leaving. Particular approaches are affected; every surrounding road isn’t closed.
📍 One Useful Update: Check your passport appointment’s destination. From October 5, Sai Arcade PSK operates at GM Tech Park, Whitefield, near Nallurhalli Metro. Existing applicants should keep their booked date and time but use the new address. The move concerns Sai Arcade appointments, so check your centre name before changing your travel plans.
New to Bengaluru? Save an errand
Bookmark the government’s Bangalore One centre locator, select Bengaluru, and find a centre nearby. These centres bring multiple government and private services under one roof.
Before visiting, call to confirm that your centre handles the service you need. Ask about documents, fees and payment methods, then save its address and number.
A five-minute call can save a second trip. And when you’re still figuring out the city, that’s one less afternoon spent hearing “wrong counter, please go there.”
Namma Dilemma: One empty shop…
A vacant shop opens on your street. What should move in?
A. Breakfast before 7 am
B. A reading room open after work
C. A repair shop for your “I’ll fix it later” things
Hit reply with A, B or C + your neighbourhood. One line, strong opinions welcome.
See you in the next kaapi. Same city, slightly better plans.
