Namaskara, Bengaluru ☀️

This Teacher’s Day, here’s to the people who taught us algebra, patience and the dangerous phrase, “This chapter is very easy.” If a teacher’s name just came to mind, send them a quick message. Five words will do: “I still remember your class.”

And here’s an unusual city fact: the “Bangalore torpedo” is a military obstacle-clearing device invented here in 1912 by Captain R. L. McClintock of the Madras Sappers and Miners. Bengaluru has always contained surprises—and apparently explosives. Read its history

Lalbagh’s famous Glass House was modelled after which iconic London building?
Answer at the end.

Weekend Recipe

Bele Holige

Known as holige or obbattu in Karnataka, this sweet flatbread filled with dal, jaggery and cardamom regularly appears at Ugadi, weddings and festive family lunches. For Janmashtami weekend, it is a fitting excuse to bring out the ghee.

The first holige may look geographically confused. Eat the evidence and try again.

The Weekend’s Big Update

Bengaluru’s suburban trains finally have a coach plan

K-RIDE and Chennai’s Integral Coach Factory have signed an agreement for 51 air-conditioned trainsets comprising 153 coaches.

The three-coach trains will serve the Baiyappanahalli - Chikkabanavara and Heelalige - Rajanukunte suburban rail corridors. Each is expected to accommodate around 350 passengers.

ICF will handle design, manufacturing, testing and integration, with initial deliveries expected during 2027–28. Trains will not begin running immediately, but securing rolling stock moves the delayed project beyond lines on a map. For commuters living outside Metro-connected neighbourhoods, that progress matters. Read the details
