More than 50 volunteers helped remove 720 kg of waste from Halanayakanahalli Lake near Sarjapur Road after Ganesha idol immersions. Around 500 kg was Plaster of Paris idols; the remainder was festival waste.
We Are Aarambh led the Sunday clean-up alongside Team Social Spotlight and local groups. Volunteers used earthmovers, nets and manual tools, retrieving more than 15 submerged idols with care.
The effort removed a substantial load, but organisers say the unfenced lake needs protection against further dumping and immersion of POP idols. A cleaner shoreline is encouraging; keeping waste out is the next job. Read more
