Namaskara, Bengaluru ☀️

The rock beneath Kempegowda’s watchtower in Lalbagh is more than three billion years old. It survived ancient oceans, shifting continents and early life on Earth. Now it watches us cancel a four-kilometre plan because “South Bengaluru is too far.”

Stay till the end. Your weekend fate is waiting.

Weekend Recipe: Huli Avalakki

Video Credits - Veg Recipes Of Karnataka

Huli avalakki, also called gojjavalakki, is a sweet, sour and spicy poha breakfast popular across the Mysuru–Bengaluru region.

This is not the fluffy poha many people expect. Crushed avalakki absorbs tamarind, jaggery and saar pudi, becoming soft, slightly sticky and properly tangy. The best spoonful has roasted peanuts, coconut and crisp tempering.

Eat it warm with thick curd, or pair it with filter kaapi when the tamarind needs supervision.

The cooking is easy; allowing the avalakki to rest and absorb the gojju is the real trick.

The Weekend’s Big Update

Bengaluru’s month-long Freedom from Waste campaign begins on August 1

Authorities have mapped around 22,700 tonnes of waste across 1,616 locations, including garbage blackspots, construction debris, weeds and blocked public spaces.

Vacant-site owners have until August 15 to clear accumulated waste. After that, civic bodies may clean the properties and recover the cost.

The announcement is ambitious. The real win will be keeping cleared spaces clean after August - before the same corner returns to its familiar form: one broken mattress, three plastic bags and a board saying DO NOT DUMP.
