Neighbourhood of the Week: Bellandur

Bellandur has gone from lake-side suburb to a dense office-and-apartment corridor, and it is changing again.
Earlier this year, the space below Bellandur flyover was cleared, landscaped and turned into a usable public area, with “suvidha” cabins for pourakarmikas. Now comes the bigger reset: ₹450 crore has been approved for the 17-km ORR stretch from Silk Board to KR Puram.
Plans include continuous 3-metre footpaths, bus bays, designated pick-up points, encroachment removal and white-topping from October. For Bellandur, the next few months may be messy, but the street-level rethink is substantial.

Community Spotlight: A locked park opens again

More than 40 residents and children spent Independence Day reviving East West Park near Valmiki Park in Malleshwaram.
The park had stayed locked and largely unused for years, while the surroundings became a garbage-dumping and waste-segregation black spot.
Under GBA’s Freedom from Waste campaign, residents, children and civic teams cleared the premises, painted walls and benches, and restored the space for public use.
40+ people may sound small beside a city-wide infrastructure project. But the result is immediate: one neighbourhood has one more usable shared space than it did last week. That is civic work you can point to on a walk.
