Good morning, Bengaluru ☀️
Your rava idli has a wartime backstory. When rice became scarce during World War II, Bengaluru’s MTR experimented with semolina instead. The result stayed on the menu long after the shortage. A fairly successful case of “adjust maadi.” Since 1924

Studying without pen and paper
A Bengaluru student team is working on a question that deserves more attention: how can competitive-exam preparation become more accessible to people with visual impairments?
Team SuoMoto from Azim Premji University, Bengaluru, won second prize at the university’s National Social Enterprise Idea Challenge. The results, published on 10 October, named 10 shortlisted teams from more than 270 entries.
Their SuoMoto Academy uses audio learning tools and memory techniques to help users solve problems without pen and paper. A companion platform, SuoMoto Club, aims to connect people with disabilities to jobs, events and peers.
These are proposed solutions, with no verified beneficiary count reported yet. But the starting point matters: making room for more people to learn, work and participate independently.

Neighbourhood of the Week: Doddakallasandra
This week, look beyond Doddakallasandra’s Metro stop. Its lake and neighbourhood parks offer another way to understand this part of south Bengaluru: through the spaces people share.
One distinction worth knowing is between the lake and BDA Doddakallasandra Park-2. The park hosted a waste-segregation and clean-up drive led by Youth for Seva on Sunday, 11 October.
That gives the neighbourhood a timely reason to feature here. A local park can be somewhere to contribute, meet neighbours and build a routine. Your next neighbourhood plan could begin with a shared green space rather than another saved café reel. Read the park report

🏙️ Bengaluru Shift: 10 October update details the planned police restructuring into five commissionerates. 21 new stations are proposed; the Finance Department has cleared 11 so far. Several outskirts stations would change administrative jurisdictions. If you live near these boundaries, watch implementation notices before assuming the police station serving your address has changed.
🚌 Commute Watch: BMTC has proposed five feeder routes for the upcoming Pink Line, connecting areas including Hulimavu, Tavarekere, Jayadeva Hospital, JP Nagar and Uttarahalli. Smaller buses are planned for narrow lanes. The 12 October report describes forthcoming services. Check launch announcements before building your commute around them; the proposal itself is not a live timetable.

Try a solo cultural evening
Still building your Bengaluru circle? Pick an event at Bangalore International Centre in Domlur and take yourself out.
Start with Wednesday’s Swarantar concert. You don’t need to know your ragas beforehand. RSVP, arrive a little early and let the musicians introduce you to something new.
It’s an easy first solo plan: a fixed start time, something to enjoy and no pressure to make conversation. Having an evening to yourself can be a good way to start feeling at home here.
