Good morning, Bengaluru ☀️

Today’s forecast: 20°C low, 30°C high, mostly sunny with possible evening thunderstorms; check IMD’s official alerts before heading out.

Someone in Bengaluru built a “video game” for flies. At the National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), researcher Pavan Kaushik created a VR-like world for insects, where wingbeats controlled movement through a simulated landscape. The goal was to understand how they navigate. NCBS

Suddenly, your weekend gaming plans sound quite ordinary.

Skip another dosa debate: order ghee poli (holige) and coffee at this Sampige Road regular. It suits a sweet breakfast detour or snack stop, rather than a laptop afternoon.

The restaurant lists daily hours of 7am–10pm. Weekend queues feature in its own customer reviews, so leave room for a wait. Sweet tooth, sensible expectations. HalliMane

An AI tutor gets a $10 million boost

Bengaluru-based Arivihan raised $10 million from Accel and Prosus, plus $200,000 from existing angel investors.

It plans more Indian-language learning, expanded CBSE offerings and hiring as it enters new markets. The company says around 80% of subscribers come from smaller cities and rural India.

The interesting part is who gets access, not the AI label. The real test now: whether those explanations help students learn, rather than just keep clicking. Read more

The Big Bengaluru Update

Hebbal’s tunnel has two report cards

Hebbal’s proposed short tunnel now has competing assessments. A study commissioned by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), led by IIT Bombay professor Archak Mittal, supports combining the tunnel with an elevated road. Indian Institute of Science researcher Ashish Verma and other experts question its traffic data and whether congestion will simply move elsewhere.

The roughly 2.2-km tunnel is planned between Hebbal and the Veterinary College. Work began in June; BDA officials now cite January 2028 for completion.

Still unresolved: how the tunnel, flyover and future Metro will work together, and whether designs need changing. Read More

For now, do not plan around a promised shortcut. Check live route conditions before heading north.

More road space should mean better journeys, not relocated queues.

One Hidden Recommendation

Trade screen time for watch time. This museum follows HMT’s watches, machine tools and tractors, with intricate watch components worth slowing down for.

Give it an unrushed hour rather than a check-in photo. It suits a solo browse, a parent visiting town, or anyone who remembers a family HMT watch.

The collection spans two floors. Before travelling over the holiday weekend, call 080 28383382 to confirm hours and accessibility. Nostalgia is a good plan; an unnecessary journey is not. Museum of India
