Good morning, Bengaluru ☀️

You know that Tuesday scene, no? One friend is stuck near ORR, one is forwarding a startup event link, one wants a DJ night in Indiranagar, and the newcomer in the group is still wondering, “Will Bengaluru ever feel like home?”

So today’s Kaapi sorts the week for you.

A little traffic sense, a little culture, a few plans, one civic story, and a myth-busting corner for anyone still getting used to the city.

Bengaluru Trivia

Which Bengaluru lake was originally built by Kempegowda in the 16th century to supply water to the city?
Answer at the end.

 🚦The Bengaluru Buffer Alert

Traffic is back in the group chat, guru.

Infosys co-founder Kris Gopalakrishnan’s post about a 31-km Bengaluru trip taking nearly 2.5 hours has restarted the city’s favourite debate: “How early is early enough?”

This week, add buffer time for cross-city plans and don’t trust Maps like it is your childhood best friend. Read more

This week’s culture trail is gallery hopping.

Bengaluru’s art scene is slowly becoming a weekend ritual, with these neighbourhoods turning into easy trails for curious locals, collectors and casual “let’s just go look” people.

No pressure to understand every painting, maga. Just walk in and let the city surprise you.

The “Saku, Let’s Fix This” Story

This week’s civic hero is Arun Pai, the Bengaluru man behind The Ugly Indian, a citizen-led cleanliness movement that began with one familiar city problem: a garbage dump everyone complained about.

Pai once spent 24 hours watching a dump on Church Street to understand why people kept throwing waste there. That patience turned into a simple idea: stop blaming, start fixing. The Ugly Indian grew around anonymous volunteer work, small cleanups and practical public-space repairs.

For a city that often feels too big to change, this is a nice reminder. Bengaluru still runs on people who care enough to say, “Saku, let’s fix this.” Read the story

City Pulse, Swalpa Serious

  • Metro check: The Metro Rail Safety Commissioner has asked BMRCL to investigate repeated service disruptions from the past three years. Good move, because Namma Metro should feel reliable, not like a suspense thriller.

  • Street-vendor watch: Bengaluru’s footpath clearance drive has left many vendors worried about livelihood. Walkable footpaths matter, but so does fair space for people trying to earn.

  • Bengaluru Shift: The GBA panel has approved a GIS-based digital platform to coordinate civic works. Translation: hopefully fewer “same road dug again, maga?” moments.

New Here? Don’t Believe Everything, Maga

Myth 1: Bengaluru people are cold.
Reality: The city opens slowly. Try cafés, lake walks, book clubs, comedy nights and office chai breaks.

Myth 2: You need perfect Kannada.
Reality: No. But namaskara, swalpa Kannada gothu and dhanyavaada help a lot.

Myth 3: Bengaluru has only tech parks.
Reality: Bengaluru is also old markets, temples, leafy gardens, art galleries, theatre nights, indie music gigs, karaoke scenes, comedy shows, open mics, and legendary dosa institutions.

Myth 4: Everyone is always busy.
Reality: People are tired, yes. But one good weekend plan can turn strangers into “bro, next time also call me.”

Myth 5: This city is hard to belong to.
Reality: Give it time. One favourite darshini, one park bench, one regular auto route, and slowly Bengaluru starts knowing you back.

Your Turn, Bengaluru

What made Bengaluru feel like home for you?
A person, a café, a dosa, a job, a park, or your first successful auto negotiation?

Hit reply. Best answers may make it to the next Kaapi.

See you in the next kaapi. Same city, slightly better plans.

Trivia answer: Kempambudhi Lake.
