Bengaluru-based Beyond Appliances has raised ₹110 crore in a Series B round led by Fireside Ventures, with Dharana Capital participating.

Founded in 2024 by Eshwar K Vikas and Rakesh Patil, it makes kitchen products including chimneys, smart hobs and cooktops. The money will support research, new products and a manufacturing plant.

Its next ambition: expand offline into 10 more cities over three years. A useful reminder that Bengaluru businesses also build things for the room where yesterday’s dishes are waiting.

Worth the Hype?

Book ahead for this Karnataka lunch

Bengaluru Oota Company, Cambridge Layout, suits a slow lunch with someone you actually want to talk to.

Choose its five-course Karnataka meal: seasonal starters, curries, rice preparations and accompaniments, finishing with mosaranna, sweets and filter coffee.

The menu changes with ingredients, so discuss preferences instead of arriving with a screenshot of one particular dish. Vegetarian meals are available.

One thing to know: You’ll need to reserve at least a day in advance. Check the menu and price before booking. “Oota ayta?” deserves a proper answer this weekend.

City Update

Bengaluru’s police force will split into five units

On 6 October, Karnataka’s Cabinet approved splitting Bengaluru’s police administration into Central, East, West, North and South commissionerates, overseen by a Chief Commissioner of Police.

The approved plan includes 1,022 new personnel, with existing staff also being reassigned. The intention is to improve local supervision, crime response and traffic management across an expanding city.

For residents, the useful question is whether this makes getting help easier. Approval alone cannot answer that: staffing, clear boundaries and coordination will determine how the arrangement works.

The report does not give a firm date for all five units becoming operational. Follow official police announcements before assuming your station or reporting jurisdiction has changed.

Namma Bengaluru deserves a system that is easier to navigate. Read the update

One Hidden Recommendation

Spend an afternoon browsing here

The Indian Institute of World Culture library on B.P. Wadia Road, Basavanagudi, offers open stacks, a quiet reading room and more than one lakh books.

Go looking for one subject and allow yourself to get distracted by another. That is a respectable afternoon plan.

Its published hours are Tuesday–Sunday, 9:30 am–6:45 pm; Mondays are closed. Membership starts at ₹200 annually. Check visitor access with the library before going.

For once, the outing can end without someone asking whether you got good photos.
